If systems have to be connected, seems to me your forcing alliance to only be in a given area. Why not just use the existing jumpgates. Seems to me that most will want to place a jumpgates in every system they are in. The more complicated it becomes.the longer it takes.to implement.

Here's the main goal behind the territory concept.

Alliances fight over territory. An alliance can only control a system if it has more colonies than any other alliance... in that system only.

So, if an alliance decided to dominate each system around them they would need to have at least 8 colonies in each system. This means to control.. say 25 systems.. it would take 200 colonies to have control without worry someone can take over..
That means that it would take 5 players concentrated in those 25 systems IF they all had the max amount of colonies in TOR. They would be extremely lucky to have their homeworlds in that same territory - not including them in this calculation.
Stats on TOR:
total systems - 11988
total planet slots - 179820
25 systems = 0.2% controlled (hmm, wonder if this should show on the alliance page... hey here's a thought, why not include it in the stats?)

So with that in mind, for an alliance to control the universe would require around 95904 colonies..2400 players in a single alliance of top echelon ranking.

Not likely, right?

Hell, even 25% control would be a daunting task.

The way the current concept works is that an alliance can have strongholds wherever they group together..focusing planets in one area only increases the odds of being attacked so this is actually a dangerous action for small alliances. I think many alliances will go to remote locations to do so, then keep those locations as secret as they can. TOR is a hunters nightmare as there is a lot of space!

I aim to have more reasons to be in an alliance, and more reason for an alliance to be active. Wars and other diplomatic abilities turn into real strengths, rather than just bragging rights.

Perhaps too lofty a goal?

When there are applicants a new panel should show on the Alliance page.
